About

Cheryl Poe — AKA Divah K Singer | Songwriter | Girl Group Founder | Music Manager | Radio Personality. Cheryl Poe, professionally known as Divah K, was born on June 8, 1969, in Harlem, New York. Born with music in her soul, she developed a love for the arts at an early age, teaching herself to write poetry, stories, and songs. Her passion for music would become the foundation of a lifelong journey through entertainment, group leadership, and radio broadcasting. Inspired by Cheryl “The Pearl” of The Sequence, one of the original female rap groups on record, Divah K was determined to make her own mark in the music industry. Meeting Cheryl the Pearl at her home in South Carolina was a memorable experience. Divah K was later invited to sing background vocals with her in the studio and on stage, an opportunity that further strengthened her dedication to music. At just 13 years old, Divah K was introduced to television through a cable show called The Belizean Girl Cable Show. She formed a group called the Ebony Girls with Dashoun and Shanique, gaining early experience in performing and developing her stage presence. Under the guidance of Ms. Pitts and JR, the girls learned how to pose, dance, and carry themselves like ladies. Divah K recalls those days as a special time, filled with the excitement of performing and the friendships that helped shape her life. Her passion for girl groups continued into adulthood. She went on to form Mystique with Lashaee and Bernice, taking on greater responsibilities in song selection, choreography, wardrobe, venue arrangements, and talent-show preparation. Her leadership abilities grew as she learned the business side of entertainment and helped guide her groups toward success. Never one to give up on her dreams, Divah K later formed another group with the assistance of David Bright and her friend Vantic. The group, named Grown n Sexy (GnS), included Stephanie and Sonee. With Divah K and Vantic working together on harmonies and promotion, the group developed a strong sound and achieved three number-one hits on iTunes, according to her account. Although the group eventually disbanded because of internal disagreements, the experience remains an important chapter in her musical journey. Along the way, Divah K developed lasting friendships, including her lifelong friendship with Roxie Pipersburg, whom she met during her early years performing with the Dreamgirls. She also balanced her creative ambitions with family life, education, and personal growth. After returning to school, she studied Business Management and graduated, strengthening the knowledge she would later apply to her entertainment career. After moving to South Carolina, Divah K discovered Internet radio. Recognizing the potential of her voice and personality, she decided to pursue broadcasting. She embraced the opportunity to promote herself, connect with listeners, and share her passion for music through radio. Her growing interest in media led her to Donald Butler of Testimonialink Media, who offered to sponsor her first website and radio show. That support helped bring her broadcasting aspirations to life and marked another important milestone in her career. Today, Divah K’s story reflects determination, creativity, resilience, and a willingness to keep reinventing herself. From her beginnings in Harlem to girl-group performances, music management, songwriting, and radio, she has continued to pursue her passion despite the challenges along the way. Her journey is a testament to the power of believing in yourself, learning your craft, and refusing to abandon your dreams. Thank you for taking the time to read the story of Divah K. celebration.
